Beyond the Boundaries At Joe's Lodge, Inc.
|
Ellen Haagen was the only female hunter, and got the nickname of
“Annie Oakley.” Ellen was a diabetic and had lost her legs to the
disease. She spent a lot of time at the lodge and came almost every
weekend and shot targets. She hunted with our group for about 3
years. She never got a deer out here but did get some at different
times over the years. Her husband, Jim Haagen, like so many of the
rest of us, thought it was important to have bathrooms at the lodge
and in 2000 started a bathroom fund. After Ellen was gone he signed
the van he used to drive her around in over to Ed Gritt who was to
find someone who could use it. The van was equipped for the disabled
and Ed found a new home for it with the Crandell family from Antigo.
They are very happy to have it.
